Waterfall's unique enclosure design is its Heatstream technology, which prevents the heat buildup that is often unavoidable after long hours of listening at high volume. The Hurricane EVO is a two-driver, two-way design with very high power-handling abilities--up to 400 watts--without audible compression.
Proprietary transducers were created for Waterfall by high-end French manufacturer Atohm. The LD100 Absolute Series bass/midrange driver features an FEA-optimized motor with 60mm neodymium ring and a copper eddy-current ring, both of which reduce distortion. The stiff cone utilizes Low Diffraction Surrounding (LDS) for improved linearity, extending the bass response to 95Hz and enabling the speaker to be used without a subwoofer in most multi-room installations. Sonically and aesthetically though, Hurricane EVO also pairs well with Waterfall's new High Force subwoofers.
The SD20 tweeter offers an extended frequency response to 28kHz, and has a neodymium magnet and a treated silk dome that uses an Anamorphic Dispersion Pattern (ADP) for improved off-axis dispersion and limited reflection of high frequencies. The ferrofluid-filled gap and aluminum voice-coil former further enhance the necessary heat dissipation.
