Proprietary Drivers detailed, balanced audio

Definitive Technology designed the drivers in the Demand Series to deliver a perfectly balanced, precise, musical sound.

Clear, Precise Highs

The D17 couples a laterally offset 1" Aluminum Dome Tweeter with our 20/20 Wave Alignment Lens. We offset the tweeters by 5 degrees, minimizing wave cancellations off the front baffle to deliver a more precise center stereo image and ensure clear, detailed high-frequency performance.

Superior Detail & Natural Midrange

The D17's 6.5" patented Balanced Double Surround System (BDSS) mid/bass driver provides greater excursion and output for superior midrange detail and punchier bass compared with other drivers of similar size.

Deeper, Cleaner Bass

The D17's 6.5" custom-woven carbon fiber woofers produce superior cone rigidity for deep, evenly extended bass notes while preventing distortion-causing cone deformation that can occur with less rigid materials.

Dual 8" Passive Bass Radiators for visceral bass response

Twin integrated 10” passive bass radiators in each speaker produce superior low-end extension for highly controlled, highly impactful bass.

Audiophile-Quality Crossovers for beautifully balanced audio

Demand Series crossovers are built with the latest premium audiophile-quality parts, including polypropylene metal-film capacitors and air-core inductors. These high-end components meticulously manage frequencies for clean and crystalline treble, refined and articulate midrange, and linear, low-distortion bass. This ensures that every detail comes through within a clear, balanced presentation that never sacrifices power.

Linear Response Waveguide™ for natural, precise imaging

Our patented Linear Response Waveguide™ extends both on-axis and off-axis frequency dispersion for more natural midrange timbre and precise imaging.

Flawless Home Cinema Audio

True audio enthusiasts are obsessive about all sound, not just their music. The meticulous attention to detail that enables the D17 Tower Speaker to beautifully reproduce music also enables it to flawlessly reproduce home theater audio.

Artistry to the eye and ear

Extruded aluminum front baffles capture a clean, modern aesthetic with a bead-blasted finish to fit any decor.

Each speaker is meticulously sanded and painted with five layers of premium gloss paint, then buffed to a near-mirror finish for an undeniably fashionable look in your home.

A Darkhorse in the Hi-Fi space...

5 DEFINITIVE TECHNOLOGY Demand D17 PAIR 6.5" 3-Way Floor-Standing Speakers Black
Reviewer: from Gulfport, Ms
If you want the best from these D17's, you'll need an AVR with some serious grunt or an Integrated Amp or power amplifier that is recommended per the manual. I own both the Denon X4300H and the X4500H.
With these Def Techs connected to the X4300H, I almost returned them. The overall sound was lack luster & little dull in the mid-range & no control in the treble, but yet very clear & transparent. The bass is good & seems to run below 35hz which is good for an sealed enclosure.

I kept the Demand D17's when I connected them to the X4500H. On paper, the X4300H & the X4500H are identical, but that's where the similarity ends. I swapped the 4300 with the 4500 & now the sound is more alive, fuller with control from top to bottom. Sound stage was vast on both AVR's, but the 4500 takes this up a notch in my opinion. The bass is tight, a bit extended to the point I had to drop the bass from 0 to -1 on the bass setting to even the sound out. The mid-range & overall sound signiture is light years ahead of the Triangle BR08. I own the BR08 & the Wharfedale Diamond 230. If you like, acoustic drums, snares, cymbals, percussion & the tight bass, these things kicks ass. Dialog is just as good & legible as the Diamond 230, but far more clear & transparent with what appears to be no coloration in the sound. With the right gear & placement, Movies, shows & music is a pure joy on these Demand D17 speakers. The Wharfedale's were my favorites, but now the D17 is the new king in my house. Currently, they're connected to the X6700H and is even better.

I got these used from Adorama for a cheap price, but I recommend you spend extra & get these new in the OEM packaging to avoid shipping mishaps & damage to the speakers?
